    To Our Beloved Late President

         by Madeline S. Renn

IN the abyss of darkness-sorrow

Men shrink from their mortal stature

To their minuteness in the sight their God;

Pride gives way to humility

Then tears burn through with love,

And dispels hate that can crush all nations,

Our President is not dead!

He lives with our Christ up there.

And lifts high the torch that he lit here,

That we may better see

Beyond the realms of our imperfections,

And better be prepared, to blaze his path

Across the new Fronteer.

Rejoice this day with him!

Knowing this agony

God will use to perpetuate

       John F.Kennedy's consecration

In the hearts of men to carry the torch

That he has entrusted to us──America,

And the free World everywhere.

Another great hero has fallen

And a profile in courage we see,

Upon the countenance

Of our gallant First Lady

Stricken, sullen and pale with grief.

While the gorgeous red roses of yesterday,

Fast withering in a horrible dream

Lay strewn with marsy's blood upon them

Over the seat of their limousine.

In her loving arms she cradled his head,

In those fleeting last moments

Before the Good-bye,

Just as the roses

In the height of their bloom;

He too was crushed

And about to die.

Then in anguish of that sorrow;

Jacqueline cried out

To her God indeed

There xemplifying the magnificent courage、

Of the beautifull heroine in pink.
